EFFECTOF COLD STRESS ON GLYCOGEN AND CHOLINESTERASE CONTENTS OF RAT MYOCARDIUM AND ITS MODIFICATION BY PHYSOSTIGMINE * By V.N. SHARMA AND N.K. KHANNA *'" Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, S.M.S. Medical College, Jaipur. A marked depletion of myocardial glycogen occurs under different stressful situations 4,5,11, 13, 14). There is a rise in acetylcholine content of rat myocardium after restraint tress(13) and rabbit myocardium after cold stress (14). In the present communication an. attempt has been made to evaluate the effect of cold stress on myocardial glycogen and holinesterase contents. Further, physostigmine was employed to elucidate the role of holinergic system, if any. 5 strains of rat. Anat. Rec.

Investigating the role of acute and repeated stress on remote ischemic preconditioning-induced cardioprotection

Objective(s): To study the effect of acute and repeated stress on cardioprotection-induced by remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC).Materials and Methods: RIPC was induced by giving 4 short cycles of ischemia and reperfusion, each consisting of five min. The Langendorff’s apparatus was used to perfuse the isolated rat hearts by subjecti...

The Effect of Quercetin on Learning and Memory Deficit, Lipid Peroxidation, and Cholinesterase Activeity Following Lipopolysaccharide in the Rat

Background and Objective: Lipolysaccharide (LPS) is a large molecule isolated from bacteria such as the enterobacteriaceae family with a negative effect on memory and learning through disturbing the balance of free radicals and creating oxidative stress conditions. In this study, we evaluated  the effect of quercetin on oxidative stress and LPS-induced memory impairment in the rat. Materials a...

Effects of seasonal variations, acute hypothermia and physostigmine on cardiac acetylcholine, tissue glycogen and blood sugar concentrations in frogs.

The effects of seasonal variations and the effects of acute hypothermia (8.0 degrees) and/or physostigmine (PHY) in different seasons have been studied on the tissue glycogen, cardiac acetylcholine (ACh) and blood sugar contents in frogs. Seasonal variations had no significant effect on cardiac cholinergic activity. However, cardiac ACh concentration was significantly reduced by hypothermia in ...

The role of acetylcholine muscarinic receptors in the rat basolateral amygdala on morphine-induced place preference

Some studies have shown that acetylcholine muscarinic receptors involved in the opiate reward. In the present study, the effect of intra-basolateral amygdale (BLA) acetylcholine muscarinic like receptor agonist (physostigmine) and antagonist (atropine) on the acquisition of morphine-induced place preference has been investigated in male Wistar rats. For this purpose, two 22 gauges guide cannula...

Effects of Teucrium polium Ethylacetate Extract on Serum, Liver and Muscle Triglyceride Content of Sucrose-induced Insulin Resistance in Rat

Possessing putative hypolipidemic effects, Teucrium polium (TP) have been traditionally used as a medicinal plant in Iran. The aim of the present study was to investigate this effect on the sucrose-induced insulin resistance male rat model. Thirty Wistar male rats weighting 180 ± 20 g were divided into five groups of six each. Four groups were given sucrose 50% in drinking water for 10 weeks. I...
